Katsina Govt Issues Appointment, Admission Letters for New Model Secondary Schools

The Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has formally presented Letters of Appointment to newly recruited Academic and Non-Academic staff, alongside Admission Letters to students admitted into the newly established Model Secondary Schools in Radda, Dumurkul and Jikamshi.

The presentation ceremony, which took place on Tuesday at the Radda Special School Assembly Hall, is seen as a significant step in the education reform agenda of the Malam Dikko Umaru Radda-led administration, aimed at improving access, quality and standards of secondary education across the state.

Speaking while performing the official presentation, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hon. Yusuf Sulaiman Jibia, congratulated the newly appointed staff and admitted students, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in the future of Katsina State. He urged the beneficiaries to approach their responsibilities with dedication, professionalism, discipline and teamwork.

The Commissioner explained that the recruitment process was strictly merit-based, stressing that the success of the Model Secondary Schools would depend largely on the competence and commitment of the pioneer staff. According to him, the schools are designed to serve as centres of excellence and reference models for other public secondary schools in the state.

Hon. Jibia further disclosed that students admitted into the three model schools were selected from public schools across all the 360 political wards of Katsina State. He said the inclusive admission process underscores the state government’s commitment to equity, fairness and equal educational opportunities for all children, irrespective of their location or background.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to the education sector, the Commissioner said Governor Dikko Umar Radda has made adequate provisions in the 2026 budget for the renovation of 74 senior and junior secondary schools across the state. He added that other interventions have also been lined up to improve infrastructure, enhance learning outcomes and restore excellence in public education.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Chief Consultant of Hallmark Consultancy Firm, Hajiya Zainab Bugaje Jika, described the establishment of the model schools as a clear reflection of the Governor’s vision for special schools that cater to diverse learning needs. She outlined the transparent processes adopted in student selection through competitive entrance examinations, as well as teacher recruitment via public advertisements, online applications, computer-based tests and physical interviews.

She expressed confidence that a competent and well-qualified workforce had been assembled to drive the vision of the model schools and ensure sustainable success.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Teachers Service Board (TSB), Alhaji Sada Ibrahim (Chigarin Dutsinma), charged the newly employed teachers to give their best in meeting the educational aspirations of the present administration. He assured both academic and non-academic staff of the Board’s continued support, particularly in the areas of welfare and professional development.

On behalf of the host community, the Bare-Bari of Radda, Alhaji Kabir Umar Bare-Bari, commended the state government for establishing a Model Secondary School in the area, describing the project as a source of pride to the community. He appealed to the teachers to see Radda as their home and maintain cordial relationships with the people.

In his vote of thanks, the Principal of Radda Model Special School, Dr. Lawal Shehu, described the occasion as a historic milestone in Katsina State’s education sector. He disclosed that over 250 staff had received appointment letters to serve in the newly established model schools, noting that the appointments come with the responsibility to uphold discipline, hard work and commitment to effective teaching and learning.

Dr. Lawal praised the transparent and merit-based recruitment process, describing it as one of the most credible in the state’s history, and expressed appreciation to the state government, the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Hallmark Education Consultant Services and AGILE Katsina for their support.

The event ended with prayers for the success of the initiative and safe journeys for participants.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included the Special Adviser on Education, Hon. Nura Saleh Katsayal; the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Ummulkhair Ahmed Bawa Faskari; the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Dr. Kabir Magaji Gafiya; the Chairman of Bindawa Local Government Council, Alhaji Badaru Musa Giremawa, who represented ALGON; and Directors of the Ministry.
